Privacy Policy

We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under New Zealand privacy law.

Last updated: 25 February 2026

Overview

Roaming Kiwi ("we", "us", "our") operates an eSIM e-commerce platform at roamingkiwi.nz (the "Site"). We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

This policy describes how we handle personal information collected through the Site, including when you browse, create an account, or purchase an eSIM plan. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve our services. The types of information we collect include:

Information you provide directly

  • Account details — name and email address when you register
  • Order information — email address used at checkout, selected eSIM plan, and quantity
  • Support communications — messages you send to our support team, including your order number and any details you choose to share

Payment information

All payment card details are entered directly into Stripe's secure payment form and are never transmitted to or stored on Roaming Kiwi's servers. We receive only a payment confirmation and a tokenised reference from Stripe.

Device and usage information

  • Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
  • Pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URLs
  • IP address and approximate geographic location (country/region)
  • ICCID (eSIM identifier) — used only when you look up data usage for an eSIM you have purchased

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process your order and arrange digital delivery of your eSIM
  • Send your eSIM QR code and installation instructions by email
  • Manage your account and authenticate your identity
  • Respond to your support requests and troubleshoot issues
  • Detect and prevent fraud and unauthorised access
  • Improve the Site based on how visitors use it (aggregate, anonymised analytics)
  • Comply with our legal obligations under New Zealand law

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the third-party service providers listed below, and only to the extent necessary to operate our service:

Stripe — Payment Processing

Your payment is processed by Stripe, Inc. Stripe receives your card details, billing information, and the transaction amount. Stripe is PCI DSS compliant. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

eSIM Network Provider — eSIM Provisioning and Delivery

To fulfil your order we share your order details (plan selected, quantity) with our eSIM network provider, who generates and provisions the eSIM. Your name and email are not shared with the network provider.

Cloud Infrastructure Providers — Hosting and Database

Our application and database are hosted on cloud infrastructure providers. These providers store data on servers in secure data centres and operate under strict confidentiality obligations.

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests from public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).

Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site. These include:

  • Essential cookies — required for authentication (keeping you logged in) and security (CSRF protection). These cannot be disabled without breaking the Site.
  • Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it. Data is collected in aggregate and anonymised form.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in or completing a purchase.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. Order records are retained for a minimum of seven years to comply with New Zealand tax and accounting obligations. When information is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it securely.

Your Rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion — request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal obligations to retain certain records
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format where technically feasible

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@roamingkiwi.nz. We will respond within 20 working days as required by law.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, hashed password storage, and access controls limiting who can view your data. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Marketing Communications

With your consent, we may send you promotional emails about new eSIM plans, special offers, and travel tips. You can opt in to marketing emails during registration or at any time through your account settings.

You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or by contacting us at support@roamingkiwi.nz. Unsubscribing from marketing emails will not affect transactional emails related to your orders and account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
